GameCity announces Zelda Takeover Day
Plus, Fez to get week-long showcase.
This year's GameCity event in Nottingham features a Zelda Takeover Day, organisers have announced.
In celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary, the event is holding a series of Zelda-themed events on Saturday 29th October.
Nottingham's Old Market Square is to be transformed into a Hyrulean marekt village for the day. Visitors will be able to craft their own sword and shield, learn to play the ocarina and stop off for refreshments at the LonLon Milk Bar.
Limited edition Zelda-branded ocarinas will be given away, with recipients invited to participate in a one-off ocarina orchestra recital.
GameCity will also play host to a world record attempt, with six gamers attempting to play through all 15 canon Zelda games consecutively as a tag team. Willing participants are asked to get in touch with Official Nintendo Magazine to register their interest.
The day's events will be recorded for posterity, with noted graphic designer Cory Schmitz putting together a limited edition zine and the National Videogame Archive recording attendees' thoughts on the series.
Finally, you'll also be able to go hands-on with new Wii adventure The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword ahead of its 18th November UK launch.
The annual GameCity festival takes place in various venues around Nottingham between 26th to 29th October.
From Dust creator Eric Chahi, Journey developer thatgamecompany and Naughty Dog's Richard Lemarchand are among those scheduled to share their wisdom, while organisers have also just announced that keenly-anticipated indie platformer Fez is getting its own special showcase, dubbed Fez Dez Rez.
Phil Fish, co-founder of developer Polytron, will take up residence in the VIP lounge of the city's Broadway Cinema between 10am and 3.30pm on every day of the show, demonstrating the game to all-comers.
