Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story developer Yasumi Matsuno exits Level-5
Recharging before embarking on secret project.
Yasumi Matsuno, the designer of Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story, has left Level-5.
Matsuno only joined Level-5, which makes the Professor Layton games and the upcoming RPG Ni No Kuni, 16 months ago. Now, he's leaving to “recharge” for a secret project.
“I'd like to formally announce my departure from Level-5, effective last month,” he tweeted.
“With my work done on the domestic and overseas version of my latest 3DSWare game [Guild 01: Crimson Shroud], it was good timing for me to step down and take a short break in order to recharge for my next project.
“My deepest thanks to everyone at Level-5 and everyone playing our games for your continued support.”
Matsuno's credits include some of the most-loved role-playing games of all time. He created Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, directed Final Fantasy Tactics, produced and directed Vagrant Story and had a hand in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
Then, he worked on Final Fantasy 12 before leaving halfway through development having instigated the Ivalice universe. He went on to work on the Tactics Ogre remake Let Us Cling Together and, most recently, Crimson Shroud.
What's his next project? “sorry, it's a secret... ” he tweeted.
