FIFA 09 was best-selling game of 2008
Saw off GTA IV, Call of Duty and Mario Kart.
FIFA 09 was the best-selling UK game of 2008, with a whopping 2 million copies shifted since early October.
The football title managed to hold off an impressive challenge from Mario Kart Wii, which rightfully crossed the finish line as the most successful single-format game of the year, according to ELSPA and Gfk Chart-Track figures on MCV.
Grand Theft Auto IV put those performances into perspective by only managing third, followed by other multiformat monsters Call of Duty: World at War and LEGO Indiana Jones at six and nine, respectively.
Otherwise the Wii dominated proceedings, with Mario & Sonic at the Olympics benefiting from the actual Olympics at four, Wii Fit at five, Wii Play at seven and Carnival: Funfair Games at 10. Brain Training was at eight.
Very good, clap clap, especially as all but Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii launched prior to 2008.
FIFA 09 also took the much coveted UK All-Formats Christmas number one spot, proving that my prediction of Prince of Persia was well off the mark. Can it hold on for another week? We'll find out tomorrow morning.
