Exclusive Empire: Total War footage
SEGA shows us naval warfare.
The next game in Creative Assembly's Total War series will be with us on 6th February 2009.
Entitled Empire: Total War, the PC-exclusive builds on the series by adding controllable naval warfare - an area previously restricted to the computer calculating which side wins.
This means you can turn the tides of victory on the high-seas in much the same way you can on land, overseeing masterful strategies to wrong-foot your rival commanders and send them to a watery grave.
For a better idea of what to expect from naval combat, check out our exclusive embedded trailer below.
Empire: Total War is the most up-to-date offering seen in the series so far, and tackles themes such as industrialisation, Eastern shipping routes, and the American struggle for independence.
The Campaign Map element of the game will be significantly improved as well, while Trade, Diplomacy and Espionage will be better thought-out. Adding to that will be a redesigned user interface and more on-screen help.
Eurogamer has awarded each major instalment in the Total War series - Shogun, Medieval, Rome, and Medieval II - with 9/10.
