Endless Space dev announces 4x strategy prequel Endless Legend
And the roguelike tower-defense hybrid Dungeon of the Endless.
Endless Space developer Amplitude Studios has announced that it will be making two more titles in what we'll now call the Endless series, with 4x strategy prequel Endless Legend and roguelike tower-defense game Dungeon of the Endless.
Due next spring on PC, Endless Legend will be most familiar to fans of the indie studio's previous outing as it's another 4x strategy affair, meaning players will explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate a civilization, only this time in a fantasy setting.
You'll play as one of eight civilizations in both single and multiplayer as you must survive through increasingly harsh climates, striving to discover the secret behind the increasingly long winters on your planet, Auriga.
"The success of Endless Space and the support of our community have allowed to make this dream come true," said Amplitude CEO, Mathieu Girard. "With respect toward great games released before us, we intend to set a new benchmark in creating a rich, immersive, thrilling, and accessible 4X strategy game in a new fantasy setting."
"4X strategy remains a key genre for us, whether set in a sci-fi or fantasy setting," added publisher Iceberg Interactive's CEO Erik Schreuder. "We're very excited to continue our co-operation with Amplitude Studios and are certain that Endless Legend will be another flagship title."
And yet, 4x strategy isn't the only genre in the pair's wheelhouse, as Amplitude is also developing the Endless spin-off, Dungeon of the Endless. Described as a "roguelike tower-defense game," you'll play as the crew of a crash-landed ship and will be tasked with protecting a generator while also exploring a dungeon and facing waves of monsters.
As detailed by Joystiq, Dungeon of the Endless will focus on allocating resources to set up a defense as you mine the dungeon. Each stage has a generator that must be protected, lest your network of doodads goes out and you're left without power in the dark, which will cause nocturnal predators to feast on your crew.
The game will support up to four-player co-op with over 30 characters to choose from, each with their own skill trees and points allocated toward different skills like combat, science, defense, or maintaining the generator.
Dungeon of the Endless will be set on the same planet as Endless Legend, thus uniting all three titles. Synergy! Check out Dungeon of the Endless' latest teaser trailer below.
