Editor's blog: Festive greetings from the Eurogamer team
Along with our content plans for the Christmas period.
Hello everyone! As the nights draw longer and Valve prepares to startle our bank managers with the contents of its latest winter sale, it's almost time for Eurogamer to take a break for Christmas. But don't worry! We still have tons of content to publish over the festive period.
Monday is our last full day, so there will be regular news coverage then as well as other features, but in the meantime we're also going to kick off our Games of 2013, starting tomorrow, Saturday 21st - a series of retrospectives from the extended Eurogamer family peering back at some of the best and most interesting games of the last 12 months.
I always love these features, which give us a chance to look again at key games with a bit of distance and perspective, perhaps drilling in to a detail that says something new about the experience or pulling back and assessing a game's impact and legacy.
Regular readers will know we've been dabbling in video all this year, both here and on our YouTube channel, so for the first time we're also including videos with each of the Games of 2013 pieces. Some of these are personal Let's Play type affairs, others are discussions between a couple of writers; hopefully they all add something to the written pieces.
On that note, I've done a little video version of this blog for our YouTube audience, since not all of them read the site, which I'll embed here in case you really are that bored.
In addition to the Games of 2013 pieces, we also have our staff Game of the Year to announce as well as the Eurogamer Readers' Top 50 Games of 2013 countdown.
There will be other bits and pieces in and around that stuff - we've already published the Eurogamer.net Podcast Christmas Quiz - and then we're back at the coalface for a bright new year on Thursday 2nd January.
It's been a really fascinating, bizarre, exciting and unusual 12 months - as much for you as it has been for us, I would imagine - but it's been a pleasure to report on it, and before we sign off for the year I just want to say a big thank-you to all our readers for your support, encouragement and feedback in 2013.
I hope you have a really lovely Christmas period, whatever it is you get up to, and I'm looking forward to seeing you again in 2014.
