Duke Nukem 3D remake shelved
Gearbox-endorsed fan project killed off.
A Gearbox-approved fan remake of Duke Nukem 3D is on the skids.
A post on Interceptor Entertainment's site explained that development has ceased indefinitely, though didn't offer a reason why it has downed tools.
It insists it still has "the good will and non commercial license provided to us to use the Duke Nukem brand for our creative ambitions," and intends to resume work at an undetermined future date
"In the interim, please know that the praise and support we received for our efforts has been both overwhelming and appreciated," read the statement.
"Interceptor Entertainment looks forward to revisiting the DNR project in the future, along with several other new, creative pursuits. Our fans can rest assured: We are going to focus our efforts on exciting endeavors and we welcome the challenges that await us!"
The project, dubbed Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded was first announced last October, with talk of a beta following a month later.
The original Duke Nukem 3D was released back in 1996 on PC. Give Eurogamer's retrospective a read for more details.
