Deus Ex: Human Defiance trademarked by Square-Enix
But is it a game or a movie?
Square-Enix has filed a trademark for something called Deus Ex: Human Defiance (thanks, AllGamesBeta).
We're not sure if it's a new game or the upcoming Deus Ex movie as the the trademark is good for various synonyms of "video games" as well as "feature film entertainment or other electronic publications." So it could be a TV show for all we know, but more likely it's either a movie or a game.
The word "human" in the title suggests a link to the last Deus Ex game Human Revolution. It will probably be a sequel, but movies based on games tend to alter the titles to avoid confusion, so who knows. We've reached out to Square for comment, but I doubt we'll get any confirmation on anything just yet.
The film is being helmed by Sinister director Scott Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill, who also worked on Sinister. The pair cited District 9, Looper and Inception as inspirations.
We were big fans of Human Revolution here at Eurogamer. Tom Bramwell awarded the elbow-stabbing stealth game a 9/10 in his Deus Ex: Human Revolution review.
