Destiny: The Taken King release date leaked
Includes third player subclass and Or raid. UPDATE: Confirmed.
UPDATE: A reveal trailer for Destiny's The Taken King expansion, shown during Sony's E3 2015 press conference, has confirmed all of the details below.
As previously reported, the major add-on will launch 15th September, include a new subclass for each of the game's three classes, and centres around the villain Or.
A new Hive ship location is, as expected, also included. It was named in the DLC design document leaked last year.
PlayStation will again get timed-exclusive content: a new PVP map and co-op strike.
Take a look at the trailer below:
ORIGINAL STORY 9/6/15 9.40am: Destiny's major upcoming expansion, The Taken King, arrives on 15th September.
That's according to leaked marketing materials obtained by Kotaku, which also detail a third subclass to be added for each of the game's three classes.
Warlocks get an arc subclass featuring an electrical storm super ability, Hunters get a void gravity bow and Titans get a solar flaming hammer attack.
A new raid featuring Hive major domo Or is also be included. Hopefully it should calm the players whose feathers were ruffled by the lack of a proper raid in the recent add-on House of Wolves.
Kotaku reports The Taken King costs $39.99, which probably equates to £34.99, going by the conversion used for the Destiny expansion pass.
This latest report backs up earlier leaks which saw The Taken King name spilled via a trademark listing and then via a Red Bull promotion (drink loads, earn bonus XP).
It also tallies with earlier suggestions that the add-on would arrive to coincide with Destiny's one-year anniversary. (Destiny launched 9th September last year).
Oh, and it fits with Destiny's two-year internal content plan that leaked last year and has so far proved accurate.
That document suggested The Taken King would offer 12 new missions, four new strikes and six new competitive multiplayer maps, although details may have shifted slightly since then.
The plan also suggested we'd visit a new Hive Ship location, which would tie into the the introduction of Hive major Or as the main baddie. No doubt he's a little irked that you carved up his son Crota back in The Dark Below.
We expect an official reveal during E3 next week.
