The next fight in the Crota's End raid of Destiny 2 is against Ir Yut, the Deathsinger.
She’s the first true boss, and a check of your team's ability to deal out damage per second (DPS). First, you will need to find your way through the Thrallway in Destiny 2.

Ir Yut approach: How to pass through the Thrallway in Destiny 2
Once you cross the Oversoul Throne Bridge you will arrive at a long corridor, with a Chalice of Light resting on its platform. Your goal is to pass through the soon to be Thrall filled hallway (hence the moniker Thrallway), and jump down into the hole leading to the Ir Yut boss encounter.
The Chalice of Light works as usual, when someone picks it up it fills with energy, and once they are full another person takes it, leaving the first person Enlightened. As your team pushes forward through the halls you will encounter semi transparent barriers that block progress. Only someone who is Enlightened can pass through. On the other side of the barrier will be a Hive Shrieker. Killing this opens the barrier, allowing the rest of the team to move forward.
The process here is simple. Start by having one Guardian become Enlightened. Everyone moves forward, killing Thralls as you go and passing the Chalice around as needed. When you come to the first barrer the Enlightened player passes through, kills the Shrieker, and everyone catches up. Rinse repeat at each barrier, and you will reach the end room after a few cycles. Dock the Chalice in the platform to open a path through the floor.
If you are fast enough there will be a room containing a chest on the other side of the hole in the floor. Once you are ready, jump down, and get ready to take on Ir Yut.
How to kill Ir Yut, the Deathsinger in Crota’s End in Destiny 2
You begin the fight in an underground chamber. Straight ahead is a doorway leading outside to the main encounter space. The Arena is made up of two towers to the front left and right from where you spawn. At the rear of the space (roughly above where you start) are two platforms, and two levels of building interior.
The goal is to defeat the Boss, Ir Yut. There are several steps that must be completed to make her vulnerable to damage:
- Seize the Chalice of Light.
- Hunt the Shieldsinger Wizards.
- Damage Ir Yut enough to interrupt her Liturgy.
The first step is to get your hands on the Chalice of Light. Start the fight by exiting the underground area and eliminating waves of various Hive. Divide into two groups and focus on working your way into the main level of the structure above the spawn point, and take out the Blistered Knights as quickly as possible. The central room of this structure is sealed by transparent barriers. Once you clear enough enemies a Shrieker on each side will open, destroying these will open the barriers, and clear the way to the Chalice. You can now start Enlightening Guardians. When needed you can safely store the Chalice on a Dock at the bottom center of the map, near the spawn point.
In order to start the boss damage phase you will need to hunt Shieldsinger Wizards. There are three in the first damage phase, four for the second, and five if a third phase if needed. There are seven hiding places, each will contain either a Shieldsinger or a shrieker. These rooms are sealed with a barrier that can only be passed through by an Enlightened Guardian. Passing through one of these barriers consumes the Enlightenment, so it is paramount that these rooms only be entered if you are sure there is a Wizard inside.
Ir Yut will start singing the Liturgy of Ruin after enough time has passed, or when the first of her Shieldsingers has fallen. This song will kill your fireteam when it ends. Once all of her Shields are dead she will be vulnerable to damage. Everyone should be unloading as much damage as possible, you will need to knock her health bar below a certain threshold to interrupt her Liturgy.
Once her shield returns it will be time to use the Chalice to spread Enlightenment again, and start the hunt again. Repeat until she falls, and it’s time for the Crota fight.
Ir Yut boss strategy in Destiny 2
First, decide which guardians are going left, which are going right. Next, assign the order for Shieldsinger Wizard hunters, this will be the order in which the Chalice of Light will be passed, and Enlightenment will be earned.
Clear the two knights near the arena entrance, and split into your two groups. Eliminate every enemy as you work your way up the steps on each side and into the main floor of the structure. Kill all the enemies, and destroy the shriekers once they open to gain access to the Chalice of Light.
The first person to take the Chalice is the Scout. Their job is to get the Enlightened buff and check all of the hiding places to see if they contain either a shrieker or a Shieldsinger Wizard. The last person with the Chalice will stow it on the Dock near the spawn area.
There are two ways to tell if a Wizard is hiding in a given space. Sometimes you will be able to see them visually. Other times you will need to look at the radar; shriekers are treated as vehicles and will have the large circle icon on rader, and you can assume that Shieldsinger Wizards will be in any hiding place where the shriekers aren’t.
Every time a Shieldsinger Wizard is located the Scout will call it out. These will be assigned to the next Wizard Hunter in order, and the Scout will move on to locating the next target. This will continue until the last Shieldsinger Wizard is found, which will be the Scout’s responsibility.
The callouts/hiding places are as follows:
- Left tower top
- Left tower bottom
- Right tower top
- Right tower bottom
- Rear left
- Rear middle
- Rear right
Once every Shieldsinger Wizard is found and all the Hunters are in place, do a quick countdown to coordinate taking the Wizards out. Everyone should rush to Ir Yut and begin DPS as soon as her shield falls. There will be a steady stream of attacks hitting your fireteam, a Well of Radiance from a Warlock is Highly recommended.
Ir Yut is highly mobile, someone using Divinity can make it much easier to land critical hits. Rockets, linear fusion rifles, and grenade launchers are extremely effective. You will need to do around one third of Ir Yut’s total health bar of damage to interrupt the Liturgy of Ruin and prevent a party wipe.
A typical rotation will look like this:
- The first person takes the Chalice, they are the Scout.
- Once their Chalice is full it is taken, this person becomes a Wizard Hunter 1.
- The Chalice is filled and taken, this person is Wizard Hunter 2.
- The Chalice is filled and taken again, this person returns the Chalice to the Dock.
- While this is happening The Scout Searches for Wizards, the first one they find is assigned to Wizard Hunter 1.
- The Scout finds the next Wizard, this is assigned to Wizard Hunter 2.
- The Scout finds the third Wizard. They are assigned this one.
- Countdown 3...2…1… all three Wizards are taken out.
- Liturgy of Ruin begins, Ir Yut’s shield drops, DPS phase begins.
- DPS Ends, Wizard hunt starts over, this time there will be an additional Wizard Hunter.
Eventually Ir Yut will fall, and the encounter is cleared. Gather your hard fought loot, and prepare for the Crota fight.
Finally, it is time to take on Crota himself.
