Dark Souls 3 NPC quests - defeating High Lord Wolnir and crossing Irithyll Bridge
Help out Siegward and get the latest from Greirat
CHECKLIST: BEFORE DEFEATING HIGH LORD WOLNIR BOSS
High Lord Wolnir can be confronted by examining the mysterious goblet in a tomb at the furthest reaches of the Catacombs of Carthus. The tomb lies a short distance beyond an enormous rope bridge in a dark, skeleton-filled cavern. Before slaying Wolnir and securing his soul, ensure that you've completed the following steps.
1. Speak with Anri of Astora in the Catacombs of Carthus
Anri can be encountered twice in the Catacombs of Carthus: once along a tunnel just prior to the long staircase patrolled by a rolling skeleton ball and again, later, along a path to the right, just before the precarious rope bridge. Speak with her (or him, depending on your character's gender), to progress the quest line. Note that you'll trigger a rush of skeletons on nearing the rope bridge, so it's wise to deal with them first before talking to Anri in this area.
2. Locate Horace and make a decision
At this point, Anri's elaborate quest line has the potential to diverge. First, locate Horace by journeying to the far side of the rope bridge (close to the High Lord Wolnir boss chamber) and attack the bridge's rope supports. When the bridge collapses, use it to climb down to the level below. Next, follow the route forward until you encounter the Fire Demon. Kill it then continue along, taking the elevator down to the Smouldering Lake area.
Next, drop into the water and take a right, hugging the right-hand wall until you spot a narrow passage to the right. Note that you'll need to be extra cautious in this area, keeping watch for the roaming giant crabs, and dodging the deadly spears that continually launch from the ballista above. Follow the passage along until it opens out onto the area immediately below the bridge. Up ahead, you'll encounter a hostile Horace the Hushed, who you can either kill or flee from.
You should now be able to return to the area above and speak with Anri, who has moved to the end of the bridge. Telling them about Horace will have two possible outcomes once High Lord Wolnir is defeated. If you chose not to kill Horace, you'll find Anri's corpse near his phantom in the Smouldering Lake area, prematurely ending Anri's quest line and preventing you from accessing the game's alternative ending. If you did kill Horace (which will earn you the Llewellyn Shield) and you told Anri so, they'll continue onward, ready for the next stage of their quest. Note also, that killing Horace and not telling Anri will still permit their quest to progress.
CHECKLIST: BEFORE CROSSING THE IRITHYLL BRIDGE
Once High Lord Wolnir is defeated, leave his chamber through the newly-opened door and climb the long stairwell. Eventually, you'll emerge out into the cold night air, with a spectacular view of Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. The left-hand path leads to a new bonfire and, shortly after, the bridge leading into the city. Before crossing the bridge, ensure that you've completed the following steps.
1. Help Siegward at the Cleansing Chapel
Warp back to the Cleansing Chapel and head out of its main entrance. Provided that you've followed this guide and completed the initial Unbreakable Patches quest, you'll hear Siegward's voice bellowing up from the well immediately to the right of the chapel entrance. Speak with him to learn of his missing Catarina armour.
Return to Firelink Shrine and locate Patches on the upper level, toward the back-right-hand side of the building. Purchase all the available pieces of Siegward's armour, then return to the well. Hand over the armour to progress to the next stage of Siegward's quest line.
2. Retrieve the spoils of Greirat's first scavenge
While you're at the Firelink Shrine, return to Greirat's usual location and speak with him to retrieve the items found on his first scavenging trip.
Continue to the list of things to do before entering Irithyll Dungeon and killing Yhorm the Giant.
