Bungie dates Aerospace reveal
Acti game announcement a long way off.
What is Bungie Aerospace - a mysterious spin-off company, a mobile game or something else entirely?
We'll know by 7th July.
"Because we're going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what Bungie Aerospace is all about," promised Bungie.
Aerospace's revelation is part of Bungie's 20th anniversary celebrations. These run from 23rd June to 7th July. Exactly when Aerospace will be de-robed in that period wasn't specified.
Other Bungie anniversary celebrations planned for that period are giving Blue Flames to everyone, auctioning Halo artwork, putting swag on the Bungie Store and offering a chance to fight Bungie devs in Halo: Reach for 24 hours straight.
Bungie Aerospace Corporation, a company, was unearthed in May. There's a landing website for it. Aerospace filed a trademark for something called Crimson: "Computer game software downloadable from a global computer network". Game software, it was later stipulated, "for use on mobile and cellular phones".
But neither Aerospace nor Crimson is the name of Bungie's new mobile phone iOS App. That's called Bungie Mobile. Released yesterday, this ties together Halo: Reach stats as well as pulls news from the company's website.
Destiny is the rumoured name of an MMO Bungie may be making for Activision as part of giant 10-year publishing deal. But it doesn't sound like we'll hear about that, at least officially, for a long time.
"My lips remained sealed on our next big thing," wrote Bungie community man Urk as E3 2011 came to a close. "They'll remain closed for quite some time, too.
"The wait will be agonising for us. Every single moment spent plotting and scheming and lying in wait. Every second another dark and maddening eternity.
"For you it will end in a single, breathless moment. The promise of this universe will unfold in front of your eyes unspoiled by the incremental machinations of its development process, and now, for the second time as I collect my thoughts about our past, present, and future, I am jealous."
After Bungie Day on 7th July, Urk said Bungie will "be going dark as we've ever been". There will be no Halo news and no Weekly Updates. "Not a peep about our next project (though Aerospace, whatever it is, is now all systems go and counting down to launch) for a good, long while," Urk added.
"Someday you'll once again witness what this team is capable of and you'll see why they were willing to sacrifice a cherished and sacred and beautiful thing – a creation they shaped and guided for so long – for a shot at something that just 10 years ago seemed so impossible."
Microsoft announced Halo 4 at E3. It will be the first Halo FPS not to be developed by Bungie.
