Bloodborne: Umbilical Cord locations, how to kill the Moon Presence and unlock all three endings
How to kill the Moon Presence in Bloodborne.
This article explains how to find Umbilical Cord locations, how to kill the Moon Presence and unlock all three endings in Bloodborne.
If you're interested in more advice, our complete Bloodborne walkthrough and for the DLC our The Old Hunters guide and walkthrough can help.
There's a good chance you haven't seen all three of the endings in Bloodborne yet, so the next part of our guide will explain how to experience them all. In order to see all three, you must have killed Mergo's Wet Nurse first. Take a look through our guide if you're still struggling to kill the boss.
How to unlock the first and second endings in Bloodborne
Your response to Gehrman, the First Hunter will determine which of the first two endings you'll experience. If you submit to him, the game stops right there and you'll get the first ending. If you choose to fight him, you'll need to kill him in order to experience the second one.
How to unlock Bloodborne's true third ending
In order to unlock this final ending, you'll need to do a little bit of exploring before approaching Gehrman. Specifically, you have to track down four Umbilical Cords, and use at least three of them before destroying Gehrman.
Where to find the Umbilical Cords in Bloodborne
The first one is the easiest to get your hands on, as you'll receive it for killing Mergo's Wet Nurse.
You can only get the second if you talked to Arianna earlier on and sent her off to the chapel. You'll find her in the Cathedral Ward section of the game - refer to that part of our walkthrough for our guide to getting her to safety. Once she's sent there, you'll find her in the room between the Chapel and the Tomb of Oedon. To get the cord, you'll have to kill her baby.
The third Umbilical Cord is obtained by going to the Healing Church Workshop and dropping down by the bit where the path breaks on the lower section. You should now be in a circular room. Head to the middle of the upper platform and then turn around until you're facing the way you came in. Look right and below you to spot a platform. Drop onto it - taking a little damage in the process - then fall onto the next platform to reach a door. Go through it to access the Abandoned Workshop where you'll find lots of items, including the third Umbilical Cord.
You'll find the final piece in Iosefka's Clinic. Refer to our Forbidden Woods walkhrough for details of how to access the Clinic at this point. Look for a patient on one of the tables, then kill the patient to get the cord. If no-one's here, you need to come back later on in the game - just make sure you drop in to this location before fighting Gehrman.
Once you've used at least three of the cords, talk to Gehrman and turn down his offer. Once you've killed him, you'll face another boss: the Moon Presence.
How to kill the Moon Presence
Assuming you've completed the above steps, you'll fight the Moon Presence right after you've killed Gehrman. The good news is that while this is yet another boss to chomp through, the fight itself is actually pretty easy.
The Moon Presence's attacks may remind you of the fight with the Darkbeast Paarl, but you can avoid most of the damage by either staying at range or sticking to the rear of the boss. The only thing to watch out for is the red flash - when this happens, you'll lose almost all of your health.
You can top it back up with Blood Vials if you wish, but it's probably better to save them for later. Instead, simply run up to the creature and unleash a furious volley of damage against the boss, as it won't attack you for a number of seconds. This should top your health back up nicely, and you can always throw a Blood Vial on top if you feel you need the extra juice.
Simply repeat this simple process until the Moon Presence is down to experience the third and final ending of Bloodborne.
