Bad Dudes 2 could be a reality via Kickstarter
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president again?
Infamous 80s arcade cabinet beat-'em-up Bad Dudes could get a sequel if it hits its goal on Kickstarter.
Newly formed indie studio Pinstripe Games would like to continue the saga of the Bad Dudes by making an all new game for them on PC and Mac due around this December.
It will feature full co-op in the campaign, single-player and co-op challenges outside the story mode and online leaderboards.
The original Bad Dudes was notorious for its incredibly stupid premise where two New York City street thugs were sent in to rescue the president of the United States.
"The president has been rescued by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?" read the title screen that has since become a popular meme.
Bad Dudes 2 will take place 23 years after the events of the original game, where titular bad dudes Blade and Striker have come out of retirement to rescue the president again.
"They're a bit older, they're a bit out of shape, but they're still some very bad dudes," said Pinstripe Games' Joe Modzeleski in the pitch video - featured below.
Pinstripe Games intends to follow in the footsteps of what made its predecessor great. "We understand that the game and its story have reached cult status for a reason, and we plan on embracing that. Bad Dudes 2 will be just as ridiculous, but with the modern conventions and modern mentality to make that ridiculousness even more over the top, and the action as outrageous as possible" said Pinstripe on the Bad Dudes 2 Kickstarter page.
"The Bad Dudes will still travel through a series of environments that have no chronological reasoning to them at all, in a hundred per cent seemingly random fashion. They will still be fighting ninjas left and right, and they will still be tough, gruff, face smashing machines. Still wielding an array of different ninja weapons, they will fight on the top of several speeding somethings, cars, trucks, trains, planes, whatever!"
It will also feature, "an award winning story to touch your heart."
Bad Dudes 2 is an official sequel as Pinstripe Games has already purchased the rights to the brand. In a private e-mail to Eurogamer, the studio explained, "We have the licensing rights to Bad Dudes, however, we negotiated a low starting price with G-Mode, and that negotiation gave us complete rights to create the sequel, but required a $30,000 additional fee to release it to retail. That is where a good chunk of our budget is going."
As far as rewards go, $10 will net you a digital copy of the game upon release, while $20 will grant access to the beta and $500 guarantees your likeness will be in the game.
In order for Bad Dudes 2 to come to fruition, it needs $80,000. As of writing this, the tally comes $2093 with 22 days to go before it reaches its deadline on 8th August. Are you a bad enough dude to fund it?
