How to find acorns and pine cones in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
If you want to collect some acorns and pine cones in New Horizons, then you need to start shaking the trees growing across your island.
Acorns can be found in hardwood trees, while pine cones can only be found in cedar trees.
Don't be surprised if it takes you quite a while to find either of these materials - the treetops in New Horizons are surprisingly packed. We do, however, have a couple of tips to help you in your acorn quest.
The first is to ensure that there's a free tile space spaced at least one tile away from the tree, but, ideally, there should be an empty space next to the tree.
This ensures that whatever is hiding within the branches will land safely on the ground. If there are no free tiles, the tree is surrounded by flowers for example, then the acorn or pine corn will vanish, preventing you from ever being able to use it.
Secondly, always make sure you're holding your net, while standing in front of the tree to shake it.
This is because one of the five wasp nests that appear on your island every day might be hiding in the treetop and you don't want to get stung. By standing in front of the tree, you'll force the nest to land on either your right or left side, which will allow you to easily catch it with one swing.

Tips for finding acorn and pine cone DIY recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
Since the main method for finding acorn and pine cone DIY recipes in New Horizons is to pop balloons, here are some tips to help you track down the balloons you need:
- Buy or craft multiple slingshots. If you're going balloon hunting, then you must bring at least two slingshots. This way you won't have to waste any time making or buying a new one when the first breaks. It will also stop you from missing any balloons.
- Balloons will appear on either the west or east coast of your island, depending on the time of day. During the day, the wind will flow in a westerly direction across, but, when the clock rings for 6pm, the wind will start blowing in an easterly direction, meaning you need to switch shores.
- Balloons ten to spawn during a minute ending with a '4' or '9.' For example, 6:09pm or 4:04am. This means that, in New Horizons, balloons spawn roughly every five minutes, allowing you to complete another task or simply have a break from playing if you want.
- Have the camera set to rolling mode. This will give you a good view of the sky, allowing you to spot any upcoming balloons.
- Don't pop a balloon over rocks, water or large groups of flowers! If you do this, then there's a large chance that you will lose the present attached to the balloon and, with it, the possibility of a new DIY recipe.
- Listen to the wind! You'll hear a whistling wind sound when a balloon is flying near you, so make sure you follow that sound to find your prize.
Good luck collecting the acorn and pine corn DIY recipes!
