UK Charts: Grand Theft Auto bad news for Cars
As in: GTA's on top, Cars is second.
Neither alien invasion nor automotive assault has been able to topple Rockstar's GTA: Liberty City Stories, which retains its lead at the top of the all formats chart for the fifth consecutive week.
Boosted primarily by a summer holiday handheld sales surge, THQ climbs an astonishing 14 places to reach number two with animated movie tie-in, Cars. It's this week's highest entry and the film hasn't even hit the silver screen yet in the UK, so weekend sales could push the title up a gear to take the lead.
Nintendo holds firm in third place with New Super Mario Bros. but Ubisoft is hot on its heels with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow. Following a successful screen debut, Ubisoft's take on the film even manages to sink Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which plunges into fifth place this week.
Dr Kawashima's Brain Training continues to expand the minds of the masses in sixth place, while 2K Games' PC and Xbox 360 shooter Prey slides five places from two to this week's seven.
Both Konami and EA have refused to leave the football pitch, with Pro Evolution Soccer 5 and FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 enjoying one last kick-about in eighth and ninth place respectively.
Last but not least in the all formats chart is Activision's Over The Hedge, which drops five places and has also been booted from the top of the PS2 chart by Ubisoft's nautical movie license.
Elsewhere in the charts, it's been a dry week for new releases - the highest new entry in the PSP chart comes from Miami Vice: The Game, which debuts at number 11.
The release schedule is looking pretty thin this week too, save for THQ's Juiced: Eliminator on the PSP, leaving next week's listing a pretty straight battle between the various summer movie tie-ins on both handheld, PC and console formats.
