UK Charts: Eidos hails the return of a legend
Ladies first as Lara shifts three times more units than The Godfather.
The top spot in the all format charts goes to everyone's favourite heroine this week, as Tomb Raider: Legend significantly outsells The Godfather - pushing EA's mobster adventure back into second place.
Benefiting from the largest platform selection in the history of the series, the number one debut marks the first time Miss Croft has lorded over the sales chart in almost three years, proving there's still life in the old bird yet. Publisher Eidos manages to snag both top and bottom of the chart this week, with Championship Manager 2006 on the PSP slipping one place from nine to ten.
There aren't too many more surprises in the top ten, as EA's urban kick-about FIFA Street 2 plays on the defensive and maintains its position in third, although Vivendi's multi-format animated film tie-in, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, makes a dramatic dash from fourteen to four.
Ubisoft and Nintendo remain static in fifth and sixth place respectively, with multi-format fighter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and the imaginative Animal Crossing: Wild World on Nintendo DS. Bethesda's hugely acclaimed RPG adventure Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion drops five places from second to seventh position, while Relentless Software's latest title Buzz: The Big Quiz slips four places from fourth to eighth.
Finishing off the top ten is a re-entry for Buena Vista Games, with Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe coming in at number nine thanks to retail promotion on the PS2 version and the recent release of both Xbox and GameCube versions.
Elsewhere in the top forty, a couple of notable entries didn't quite manage to climb the ranks as quickly as they might, with 2K Sports' tennis title Top Spin 2 entering at number thirteen, while RedOctane's European debut with Guitar Hero slips in at number twenty-eight, just above a re-entry for Ubisoft's Crazy Frog Racer, incredibly.
The new titles due out this week are unlikely to shake up the charts too drastically, though Square Enix may make an impact with Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King on PS2, whilst Sega's brutal Xbox 360 title Condemned: Criminal Origins gets a PC release and Sony brings Daxter to the PSP in his own adventure.
