VILNIUS, Lithuania – Five European Parliament members have visited an alleged CIA prison in Lithuania as part of an inquiry into possible torture of suspected terrorists.
The lawmakers toured a facility in the Antaviliai forest outside the capital, Vilnius, on Thursday.
Last year, human rights groups Amnesty International and Reprieve claimed al-Qaida suspect Abu Zubaydah was flown on a Boeing 737 from Morocco to Lithuania in 2005.
But an investigation by Lithuanian lawmakers in 2009 said two facilities had been set up as CIA prisons but there was no evidence prisoners were held there.
The European lawmakers are holding three days of talks with Lithuanian officials to determine whether a new probe should be launched. The lawmakers are scheduled to hold a news conference on Friday.
