NYPD Deploys Counterterror Personnel After Afghan Hotel Bomb Attack

The New York Police Department announced it deployed additional counter-terrorism personnel at city hotels Tuesday after news broke of a bombing attack by the Taliban on a hotel in Afghanistan.

The department said it was not acting on any specific threat, but these measures are a standard protocol until additional information is confirmed.

Afghanistan news agency TOLOnews is reporting at least 10 people have been killed. That number has yet to be independently confirmed.

Afghan officials say four suicide bombers and four gunmen attacked the hotel. Multiple explosions were heard in the initial raid.

Associated Press reporters at the scene said another two blasts -- about a minute apart -- occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
