Boston mobster's girlfriend files notice of appeal

A lawyer for the longtime girlfriend of mobster James "Whitey" Bulger has filed a notice saying she will appeal her conviction.

The notice comes one day after Catherine Greig (grehg) was sentenced to eight years in prison for helping Bulger evade capture for more than 16 years.

Greig pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, identity fraud and conspiracy to commit identity fraud.

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced her to eight years in prison, below the 10-year sentence recommended by prosecutors but well above the 27-month sentence recommended by her lawyer.

Attorney Kevin Reddington on Wednesday filed a one-paragraph notice of appeal in U.S. District Court. The notice asks the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston to review the case.

Bulger is awaiting trial for allegedly participating in 19 murders.
