EL DORADO, Ark. – Three men were killed Monday when a battery they were taking apart exploded at an abandoned oil well in El Dorado, Ark.
The workers from the Long Brothers Oil Company were killed when oil vapors inside the well ignited as they were dismantling the battery about 4:00pm local time, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
Officials said they were not sure what had caused the vapors to ignite at the abandoned site.
Arkansas Emergency Management spokesman Chad Stover told CNN that, "All three were killed. They were burned beyond recognition."
There were no other injuries and the coroner was on the scene working to identify those killed and notify next of kin.
