Murkrow 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Murkrow in Pok¨¦mon Go
Everything to get the most out of Murkrow Spotlight Hour!
This week's Spotlight Hour is all about the Darkness Pokémon... wait, wasn't that last week? Checks notes... Yep. That was last week. This Darkness Pokémon, however, is significantly worse, making it the perfect time to catch a perfect Murkrow in Pokémon Go!
Murkrow and its evolution Honchkrow are both pretty useless across the board. If you're a new player who needs a Dark-type raid attacker, it's fine as a glass cannon - though as soon as you get access to something like Tyranitar, Murkrow is blown out of the water. That's about as good as it gets for this Pokémon though.
As usual, catching as many Murkrow as possible is the plan for this week’s Spotlight Hour both because of the chance to hunt a PVP Pokémon in Pokémon Go and because of the double catch XP bonus that runs alongside the event.

Murkrow 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
This week’s Spotlight Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Murkrow with perfect IV stats.
'Perfect', of course, means two things in Pokémon Go. First, there’s the maxed out, 100% IV version, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for your 4* Pokédex, raids and Master League. Yet, because of how CP is calculated using these three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is usually only ever the best version of itself in the Master League, raids and Go Rocket battles.
In this case, a perfect Honchkrow in Great League has a max CP of 1495 at Level 20.5.
Of course, you can’t see the IV of a Pokémon without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can tell if these are the droids you’re looking for, as the late Great Ben Kenobi once said, based on the CP alone.
If you’re at Level 30 (or above), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Murkrow:
The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30 and, due to the majority of the player base now being above this level, we’ve kept to these values for the sake of simplicity. These values will, however, be different if you’re currently below Level 30.
Is Honchkrow good in PVP?
No.
Honchkrow runs Snarl, Brave Bird and Dark Pulse. This is pretty spammy and flexible, and lays down decent shield pressure with STAB damage thanks to how fast-charging Snarl is. The issues are that Brave Bird is a self-debuff nuke, and that Honchkrow is a glass cannon - despite being a chonky birb, it's all feather, no bulk. This Pokémon simply cannot take a hit, and winds up eating all of your shields for no real benefit.
In Great League, this translates to wins against Serperior, Gastrodon, Talonflame, Sableye and Jumpluff. Losses will come from Shadow Drapion, Dunsparce, Shadow Feraligatr, Clodsire and Azumarill.
Looking to Ultra League, Honchkrow rapidly falls behind the pack - Galarian Moltres, Mandibuzz, Yveltal and even Bombirdier are all significantly better. Looking to Master League we have the same problem - Yveltal exists.
The Dual Destiny Season is here! It brings the Holiday Part 2 event with it. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.
Is there a shiny Murkrow in Pokémon Go?
Yes! Shiny Murkrow and shiny Honchkrow are available in Pokémon Go.
Shiny Murkrow was released in 2018, as part of the April Fool’s Day event. We guess that just shows how good this Pokémon is...
What does shiny Murkrow look like?
As you can see below, shiny Murkrow goes for a snazzy purple/gold combo. While the beak and feet don't really change much, the feathers change from indigo to a lovely deep purple colour. This colouration is conserved for shiny Honchkrow, which simply swaps its blues for purples!

Other reasons to catch as many Pokemon as possible
Aside from trying to actually spot a shiny Murkrow in Pokémon Go, there's a couple of other good reasons to partake in this week's Spotlight Hour:
- The best reason, of course, is the double catch XP bonus running throughout the hour. Try to focus on making Excellent Throws to make the most of this bonus! We also recommend waiting until this Spotlight Hour is live before catching your first Pokemon of the day, because, again, it will result in more XP.
- This bonus can be stacked with a Lucky Egg, which doubles the amount of XP you earn for every activity in Pokémon Go.
- Thanks to Murkrow being a Dark/Flying-type, catching a bunch during this Spotlight Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medals.
Spotlight Hour events only last for an hour - 6pm to 7pm (local time). Come back next week for a primer on Slugma and Bergmite, two Pokémon taking the spotlight at the same time!
Good luck finding a perfect Murkrow!
