Looks like it's going to be a Quake 3 day... Redwood posted a story over on Stomped to say that he is one of the people beta testing Zoid's Q3CTF maps. There should be three of them in all, and they will be available "soon". It also sounds as if they are a lot better than the ones in the boxed version of the game. Looks like point release time again folks...

Robert Duffy updated his .plan to say that the editing tools for Quake 3 Arena are now available, allowing us to create our own maps for the game!

Graeme Devine (id Software's resident Brit) updated his .plan with a report on Y2K testing of Quake 3 Arena, admitting that "Q3A does not survive a nuclear war", and revealing that should John Carmack fail because of a Y2K glitch they have 200 backup Carmacks hidden in Idaho...

The first patch for Unreal Tournament is now available. This solves problems with detecting some Direct3D graphics cards, as well as fixing a few minor bugs, improving server performance, and adding a spattering of new features such as a "flesh hit sound" for bullets. Mmmm... Juicy.

The demo for the PC version of Final Fantasy VIII is now available over at 3D Files. It weighs in at a rather hefty 70Mb, and comes with a warning that the demo is provided as-is with no technical support. So cross your fingers and hope for the best.
