Super Mario RPG's Geno Joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Roster as a Mii Fighter Costume
Heartbreak for the Geno hopefuls, yet again.
Geno has been a frequently requested addition for the roster of Super Smash Bros., and today, fans got their wish. It may not have been the exact way they wanted it to happen, though.
As part of today's full reveal of Sephiroth, the newest addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo also unveiled the next line of Mii Fighter cosmetics and costumes. Alongside a Chocobo hat and Mii skins for Barrett, Tifa, and Aerith, Geno was added as a skin for the Gunner class.
Geno is one of the original characters created for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, a classic SNES RPG that's well-regarded to this day. Fans of the game and Geno have been asking for his fully-fledged Smash Bros. debut for some time, to join the platform fighter's pantheon of video game mainstays.
This isn't the first fan favorite character to make their Smash debut as a Mii skin; Undertale's Sans was also added as a skin, and several other notable characters have had their appearance added as a Mii cosmetic too. This isn't even the first time for Geno, though, as the puppet already appeared as a Mii costume in the Wii U and 3DS installments of Super Smash Bros. For Geno hopefuls still holding out hope for a proper fighter debut, this one probably stings a bit.
Twitter users have already been having a bit of fun with the announcement, even showing Geno alongside other Mii cosmetic characters like Cuphead and Travis Touchdown. The costume does only cost 75 cents though, so this route is saving Geno fans a bit of cash.
This might not be what Geno fans wanted, but hey: he's still one step ahead of the Mallow gang, at least. Maybe the surprise addition of a shirtless Sephiroth option will help ease your pains.
The Mii Fighter DLC pack will be out on Dec. 22, the same day as Sephiroth. Those who purchase Sephiroth or the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 can also play an Sephiroth Challenge starting at 3 p.m. PT today up until his launch, and those who emerge victorious can get early access to the Final Fantasy 7 villain.
