Stadia Promises a Handful of Timed Exclusives and Over 100 Other Games for 2020

Stadia Promises a Handful of Timed Exclusives and Over 100 Other Games for 2020

Google expects "more than ten" timed exclusives over the next six months.

Assuming Google's in this for the long haul, we're still only in the early days for its game streaming service Stadia. In the lead up to its November 2019 launch and the weeks since, Google has acquired a development studio, pushed out a couple new features, and added some games to the service, but now the company's ready to talk ambitions for the coming year.

At the official Stadia community blog, Google has announced that it's "tracking more than 120 games" for release on Stadia in 2020, including "more than ten" games" titles within the next six months that will be Stadia-exclusive at launch. Additionally, Google is promising that some of the Stadia features it pushed back to this year—including compatibility for a wider range of Android phones, 4K web client streaming, and wireless Stadia controller support on the web—are coming in the next three months.

Stadia launched with 22 titles, 10 of which were added to the lineup a day before the service went live. Only one of those available titles, Gylt, is a timed-exclusive for Stadia. With new that more exclusives are on the way and Google's recent acquisition of Typhoon Studios, makers of Journey to the Savage Planet, it appears that Google's embracing exclusivity deals to bolster Stadia while Microsoft and Sony show signs of moving in the opposite direction.

Fortunately or unfortunately as it may be, a few highly anticipated multi-platform titles slated for Stadia releases have suffered delays. Doom Eternal, originally set to launch near the debut of Stadia, will come out in March. Ubisoft's Watch Dogs Legion was delayed out even further. This week, both Marvel's Avengers and Cyberpunk 2077 were pushed back to September—now, some users at official Stadia subreddit hope the delay of the latter means it will launch on Stadia alongside PC and console.

Google's announcements have been largely well-received at the subreddit, where early adopters have spent the first couple weeks of the year eagerly awaiting an update from Google. At the very least, they've given the community more to discuss than their internet connections, the lack of native 4K support in many titles, and memes about Knack and Crysis.
