PUBG Corporation announced today the establishment of a new development studio. The new studio, Striking Distance, will be run by former Sledgehammer Games vice president and general manager Glen Schofield. The team is hiring to create "an original narrative experience within the PUBG universe". The new studio will be located in San Ramon, California.
"As a company, we have focused on developing and making content available for global audiences through close collaboration with international teams located across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. That vision is taken to the next level as our development and service portfolio expands and diversifies with Glen Schofield and Striking Distance," said PUBG Corp CEO C.H. Kim in a press release. "We are thrilled to welcome Glen to the company. His unique blend of proven leadership and boundless creativity will help us create great synergy."
Schofield began as an art director for a small studio called Absolute Entertainment, before moving to Crystal Dynamics. There as a vice president, he headed development on Gex and Legacy of Kain. Then he moved onto Visceral Games, where he helped create titles like 007: FRom Russia With Love and Dead Space. The latter title was driven by Schofield as executive producer, who offered a great deal of input on the growing world of Dead Space. In 2009, he co-founded Sledgehammer Games with fellow Dead Space collaborator Michael Condrey, working on several Call of Duty titles for Activision, including Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: WW2.
"Throughout my career, I've had a lot of opportunities to make some remarkable games that tell incredible stories, and each of them has meant something special to me," said Schofield. "But now, those learnings will help me build a AAA team that can explore new designs and concepts at Striking Distance. As a creative, the freedom to explore the PUBG universe has me excited about the possibilities, which I view as beyond the battle royale genre. Today represents a special moment for me and I'm so thankful to be taking this journey with the team at PUBG Corporation."
