Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have a Setting For Twitch Streamers Trying to Avoid DMCA Issues

Avoid those pesky copyright claims.

The launch date for Cyberpunk 2077 is fast approaching, and as one of the year's higher-profile games, streamers will likely be eager to play it. Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed today that there will be a mode for those streamers to play without encountering any issues with broadcasting the game's licensed soundtrack.

In today's Night City Wire broadcast, CD Projekt Red confirmed there will be a DMCA-friendly audio option so streamers can avoid having strikes placed on their channel. It won't just disable certain tracks that could cause problems, but put alternate music in its place that shouldn't elicit any concerns. It'll be a simple toggle option in the menus as well, so you can flip the songs back on once the stream's over.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act has been a stumbling block for broadcasters as of late. Twitch recently released a set of guidelines and advice for streamers to avoid receiving DMCA notices against themselves after a wave of them hit channels.

Considering Cyberpunk 2077 will feature songs from the likes of Run the Jewels and Grimes, having some DMCA-compliant measures in place seems fairly prudent. It avoids a headache for all parties, even if it means the viewers at home won't get to hear a bop like "No Save Point."

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on Dec. 10, after another delay pushed it out of the next-gen launch window. It's honestly a good thing, considering the number of games I've had piling up in my backlog these last few weeks, though reports of mandatory crunch at the studio put a damper on the extended timeframe. The new game from CD Projekt Red will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia, with free upgrades coming for next-gen console versions in the future.
