CD Projekt's Giving Away The First Witcher Game Ahead of Cyberpunk 2077's Launch

CD Projekt's Giving Away The First Witcher Game Ahead of Cyberpunk 2077's Launch

If you get on GOG, you can start Geralt's story from the beginning for free.

For those itching to get in on CD Projekt Red's vision of Night City next week, there are a lot of different ways to pick up Cyberpunk 2077. It'll work on consoles new and old, and PC users will have their pick of a few major digital storefronts including Steam, Humble, and the Epic Games Store—but CD Projekt might prefer it if you go through their own store, GOG, and they've just announced a free giveaway to make it a more attractive option.

Regardless of whether you're going in for Cyberpunk, though, this deal might be worth paying attention to: starting today, GOG Galaxy users can redeem a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. Essentially an updated and uncensored version of the game, this is probably the best version of CD Projekt Red's first Witcher title you can get (but, y'know, adjust your expectations if you're accustomed to the glamour of The Witcher 3).

There is a small catch for redeeming this free copy of the game. In order to complete the claim, you do need to opt-in for GOG's Breaking News Updates | Latest News Headlines | Photos & News Videos and offer emails, but I'd say a bit of wading through the ol' inbox might be worth it for a weighty RPG.

Even though CD Projekt owns GOG, it's not keeping exclusive goodies just on its own platform. For those interested in grabbing Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam, all pre-orders are being rewarded with an exclusive short story set in the Cyberpunk universe.

Also, maybe the unending deluge of free games from Epic has made it so you don't know when you'll ever have time to go back and play the first Witcher. It's a common problem, no doubt, but if I told you that you could mod in the "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" song, maybe that'll secure it a spot on your backlog?
